Purpose
The purpose of the annual International Animal Rights Day is to mourn animal victims of human tyranny and to call for the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights to be accepted.
History of International Animal Rights Day
This universal day of action (World Animal Day) is also the feast of the patron saint of animals, St Francis of Assisi. In 1925, in Berlin, Germany, Heinrich Zimmermann organized the first celebration. He initiated the event to raise awareness and promote animal welfare.
